My one year anniversary in Cape Town

1st December 2018 marked my one year of living as an independent adult in Cape Town – I survived, haha! My choice to relocate to Cape Town was one of the best and most rewarding decisions I’ve made and it has significantly impacted my life in the most positive ways imaginable. I ended 2018 eager for what 2019 holds as I was moved to tears with the news of my parents soon joining me in Cape Town.
A great deal has occurred in this past year, 2018 was possibly the most difficult year of my life. I endured several hardships, some of which the general person wouldn’t encounter in their lifetime. Despite the challenges, my successes heavily outweighed the adversity and I believe that these successes were due to the opportunities that Cape Town brought me.
I have met the most special people, some soon turned into friends and then quickly into my family, they made life a bit easier and are my constant happiness. I’m often asked about my journey so far and some people are confused as to why I chose to be on my own in an unfamiliar province, so far from 'home' and at such a young age, but that’s where people differ. We don’t all want the same things in life which doesn’t mean that what I’m doing is right or wrong for the next person. All I can say to the onlookers is that I end every one of my days with a happy heart and I wouldn’t give up the life I’ve built for myself in Cape Town.
My advice to anyone that’s considering or is relocating to Cape Town – people always have an opinion, they will place doubt in your mind and they will have something negative to say; only a few will encourage you to pursue this adventure. Hear the unwanted opinions but do not take them to heart, the grass is so much greener wherever you water it – and the Cape Town wind is not so bad, haha!
Cheers 2018, here's to 2019 - Happy New Year! May you live freely and unafraid of making mistakes because if you are making mistakes then you are trying new things, you're learning, living, pushing boundaries and changing yourself.
